"Hack the Change" is a social impact Hackathon, geared towards apps that solve problems of:
International Development
Disaster Management
Mass Atrocities Prevention
Humanitarian Aid
Community Engagement and Democracy Enhancement.

In short, basically anything that makes the world a better and safer place.

Hack the Change seeks to create viable and sustainable technology based solutions to challenges faced by countries with developing technology infrastructure. The event encourages people to look at international and local issues from a tech/engineering perspective, rather than a policy perspective. It thus provides an avenue to bring together developers, engineers, NGOs, and entrepreneurs to solve real world problems and make an immediate impact. We are very excited to see what results come out from this exciting intersection of people. Our event is one of the many growing projects in the field of information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D), continuing to Hack the Change we wish to see in the world.

Eligibility

Participants must be full-time or part-time University students, except where permission is explicitly given.

Requirements

Each team is permitted one submission that must be received by 5PM on Saturday, September 28th. All code must have been produced solely by team members, working on-site, after 6:00PM on Friday, September 27th (you can use libraries/frameworks available to everyone).. By submitting a project, you and your team grant the Hack the Change team and organizers the unrestricted right to use your submission material, at no cost, for promotional purposes of future Hack the Change events.

Participants must agree to the following: 1) Whatever apps they create can be sent back to and used by the NGO who gave the idea, and  2) They can obviously still have access to their own app, but they agree not to use it to make any profit in any way.
